CURRENT ESCAPADES

Finding Gary Hopper

Fredericksburg, TX
(Click photos for larger view)
Gary Hopper retired in the same style that he practiced dentistry. Without fanfare, he simply found another awesome dentist to replace himself and sailed headlong into retirement. But where did he go? Some say he went in search of the Holy Grail, while others say he has been spotted hunting muskrat pelts in the Yukon. Another report had him researching the migratory habits of the North American wino, but all of these leads led to nothing. Recently, several reliable sources have reported multiple Hopper sightings in Fredericksburg Texas, so Dental Smut sent their top investigator down for a look-see that paid off big! Click the photos to read the rest of the story...
Without warning, this reporter showed up one recent Friday at the Hopper Ranch in Fredericksburg Texas. (Somewhere between Hooterville and Mt. Ivy) This is Gary as I surprised him on the back patio. I am sure many thoughts raced through his mind as he watched me approach. Am I dreaming? Does that guy look like Dene? Do I have an outstanding lab bill? Who invented liquid soap and why?
Gary’s beautiful wife Erica, conspired with me to pull off this surprise caper.
Dear friend and client, David Slaughter was my co-pilot during this event.
This beautiful outdoor living room has never felt the sting of a bad day at the dental office, so the happiness took a few minutes of adjustment for David and I.
Blue skies, beautiful horses and 360 degree’s of Texas beauty has become a way of life for Gary and Erica.
The Hoppers contracted and helped build their home along with the barn and every building on the ranch. I have never scene Gary in better physical condition.
Mt. Ivy straight ahead.
Looking toward Hooterville.
I made the suggestion that the barn on the left would be a great place to practice Dentistry. Gary countered that the building on the right would be a good lab, but I had to put up my own walls and take charge of the barbecue!
Not exactly Painters Path, but it does lead to a weird truck!
From bare land two years ago, one can now see the home, the buildings or horses that represent the bedrock values of why the Hoppers chose this for their dream retirement.
It’s a long way to Palm Desert!
A group pic with the Hoppers and their next door neighbor and it was time to head back to Austin. P.S. There is no truth the Hopper ranch will annex the Johnson Ranch anytime soon, but I will keep you posted.
Looking back to take this photo, I realized that this was really Gary’s new life and that a great career can give way to an even greater retirement. If all dentists knew how to have a really cool retirement, there would be a shortage of tractors and horses! Congratulations Gary and Erica, see ya’ll soon…..
